✨️💙 THE ANCIENT VILAGE IZNÁJAR  IN THE SOUTH OF CORDOBA ✨️💙

📍 Location: Located in the southern part of Cordoba province, near the Subbética mountains, bordering the provinces of Granada and Malaga.

🌄 Nature: The landscape is mainly undulating olive fields along with limestone mountains and valleys, part of the Sierra Subbética Natural Park. This area is known for its scenic watercourses, charming small lanes, and whitewashed houses that seem to hang over the water, creating a picturesque and unique view.

🏰 The Village: Situated on a hill with views over the large Iznájar reservoir on the Genil River. The narrow, winding streets and white houses form a beautiful and characterful scene.

The Castle: Located on the hilltop, the castle is the perfect finishing touch to the unique landscape. The village’s old name, Hins Ashar (stone castle), hints at its origins around the 8th century during the Arab period.

📜 History: During the Middle Ages, the village was a contested border area between the Kingdom of Granada and surrounding Christian territories. It was last taken by Christian forces in 1431, during the reign of John II. In the 19th century, Iznájar became a base for the local uprising known as “indigenous socialism,” led by Rafael Perez del Alamo.
